Vintage Japanese Silk Trade Labels: Includes CD-ROM

Classic label art designs: Originally shipped from Japan to Italy in the early Twentieth century these labels identified the boxes of silks destined for the European market. These are classics of graphic design from the period 1900 - 1930. Mainly these are rich with imagery to illustrate Japanese themes, such as the Rising Sun and Geisha, cranes, blossom and Mountains but also visual ideas with a Western flavour such as Art Nouveau figures. Layouts and fonts are original and often unique, including animal imagery, flowers, butterflies, Sumo, fans, pets and many more ideas - generally accompanied by the text "Raw Silk" and the manufacturers mark in Japanese.
