Dogs, goats and pelicans in top hats, tigers as jealous lovers, bison in suits at court, a clothed bear leading a performing tortoise - from the surreal to the whimsical, the sinister to the comic. Celebrated French caricaturist Jean-Ignace-Isisdore Grandville designed these 300 black-and-white illustrations of animals satirising human behavior. Strange humorous and dark, these scenes are unique, rendered with a high level of skill. Grandville mixes metaphor and comic or odd effects with exceptional draughtsmanship and a sense of humour.  
This book and CD-ROM set is part of the Dover Digital Design Source series. Collected from Dover's famous Pictorial Archive library, the images can be used in a variety of print and web projects. The CD-ROM contains 308 detailed engravings saved in JPEG format.
