Doré's Illustrations for Don Quixote

Doré's illustrations have become the standard pictorial interpretation of Cervantes' famous satire. Contained in this volume are 120 full-page plates, and a selection of 70 characteristic head and tailpiece vignettes, carefully engraved by H. Pisan. Captions for this edition describe the action with reference to the original Spanish text, capturing high points of the story.
Intricately detailed classic engravings, these are full of humour and atmosphere, from Sancho complaining of his master choice of rugged terrain, to Don Quixote after his battle with the cat - this is a volume that has strongly influenced later artists and film makers.
