Reproductions of original playing cards from decks created from the 14th to early 20th centuries. A prototype for the double-faced English picture deck is here, as are many curious and beautiful decks from the past. Over 90 decks are shown in all, presenting 325 colour and 600 black and white images, taken from a rare French turn of the century collection. There is the traditional array of Kings and Queens, but a much more extensive set of themes such as trades, emblematic figures (justice, prudence), military scenes, the seasons, the elements, caricatures, animals and medieval figures and grotesques.
