Intended as reference material for his work as sculptor and teacher, the nature photographs of Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) influenced and helped to establish modern German photography. His purpose governed his method: direct lighting, sharp focus and enlarging to reveal hidden structure, produced magnificent prints, which disclose a similarity between natural and man-made forms.
