The incidental music to Shakespeare's play consists of an Overture and nine movements Scherzo, March of the Elves, Song with Chorus, Intermezzo, Nocturne, Wedding March, Funeral March, Peasant Dance, and Finale. This edition, reprinted from the authoritative C. F. Peters edition, reproduces Mendelssohn's own transcription of the orchestral suite for piano four hands, a long-time favorite among duet players. Introduction by Ralph Neiweem and Claire Aebersold.
