Description
Ten centuries of pictorial and ornamental alphabets and initials beginning with an example from a 10th century German illuminated Bible and concluding with a 20th century American alphabet. The illustrations are arranged in chronological order with a large portion of the book devoted to the Renaissance. There are many examples of alphabetic ornamentation and printing including: biblical scenes, knights, animals and mytholical creatures, floral, and geometrics.
