Thomas Nast (1840 - 1902) created the image of Santa Claus which we recognize today. This book is a republication of Nast`s 'Christmas drawings for the Human Race' (1890). Included are illustrations of Santa perched atop a snowy chimney, his workshop at the North Pole, Santa in his sleigh, Santa opening his mail and making a record of children's behavior. Here too are humorous and heartwarming drawings of children on Christmas Eve showing them hanging enormous stockings, standing under mistletoe and waiting up all night to catch a glimpse of Santa. Drawn with great care and detail, these are the classic Victorian depictions of Christmas.
