Mens Fashion Illustrations from the Turn of the Century
A pictorial survey of what upper-middle class American men wore in the early 1900's. Over 100 full page sharply detailed black and white illustrations have been reproduced from rare issues of 'The Sartorial Art Journal' - a sophisticated trade publication used by tailors when consulting with their clients. The 'Journal' features such custom made garments as sporty knickers and jackets for golfing, suitable attire for yachting and horseback riding, long fur-trimmed overcoats, checked and striped business suits, formal evening wear and servants' livery. Many of the figures are depicted with a wide array of sporting equipment (golf clubs, tennis rackets, bicycles), hats (top, bowler, straw), luggage, canes, gloves and spats. The outfits are set against appropriate backdrops: from stations,, terraces, wide boulevards, country clubs and lavish homes.
