Dressers Victorian Ornamentation - 150 Designs
Borders based on medieval manuscripts, patterns drawn from Greek and Persian pottery, designs adapted from Venetian lace - this unique sourcebook by a famed designer abounds in splendid original ornaments. Its gorgeous black-and-white drawings include styles influenced by German Gothic, Japanese, Arabic, Indian, Celtic, and ancient Roman art.
A pioneer of modern design, Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) was one of the Victorian era's most influential stylists, whose works are an important part of Victorian interior design and colleague of Owen Jones - who asked him to contribute a plate of plant forms to the Grammar of Ornament. A botany student as well as a student of design, his images were influenced by the detail and structure found in plant forms and were used in the manufacture of wall panels, curtains, reliefs, borders, lace, carpets and a host of uses inside Victorian homes.
